Position Summary

Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA) and
the Arnold A. Saltzman Institute of War and Peace Studies (SIWPS) seek a
Coordinator to support the functions of the SIPA Cyber Program. For almost
a decade, the SIPA Cyber Program has advanced the understanding of cyber
policy within SIPA and across Columbia University. The coordinator will
report to Jason Healey, Senior Research Scholar and Director of the SIPA
Cyber Program, and will be responsible for project management, coordinating
convenings, and supporting program administration.

The coordinator will serve a critical role in maintaining and growing the
SIPA Cyber Program. The selected candidate will need to support ongoing
research activities – including publications, workshops, and conferences.
Outreach will also be required to engage with SIPA departments, industry
partners, donors, alumni, and colleagues in the private sector.

Responsibilities

   - Support a range of research projects including, but not limited to:
   Cyber Regulation Lab, Cyber Recommendations Project, Cyber Risks to
   Financial Stability, Workforce Development, and Cyber Conflict Studies.
   - Coordinate convenings and events that support research projects,
   including workshops, large conferences, and high-profile meetings in both
   in-person, hybrid, and virtual formats.
   - Develop and maintain financial activities, which include budgeting,
   while maintaining up-to-date financial information for grant compliance.
   - Supervise several (usually three to four) graduate student researchers
   in supporting ongoing research activities.
   - Maintain the SIPA Cyber Program’s website content and communication
   strategy, including sharing recent publications, and events; a regular
   newsletter; and social media posts.
   - Coordinate and organize the annual NYC Cyber 9/12 Strategy Challenge.
   - Serve as a point person between the Program Director, Affiliated
   Faculty, and other colleagues and partners.
   - Identify fundraising opportunities and assist in grant writing and
   reporting.
   - Proactively engage with SIPA alumni and industry partners.
   - Support research, editing, and writing as required.
   - Perform related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

   - Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in the field of International
   Relations, Political Science, Computer Science, or a cyber-relevant field.
   - 0-2 years of cumulative work experience. Preference will be given to
   those who have past experience working for an academic organization, think
   tank, or similar private sector work.
   - Understanding or exposure to topics of cybersecurity, trust, safety,
   and emerging technologies via professional experience or through coursework.
   - Strong organizational and communications skills.
   - Willingness and ability to travel. Usually, this is limited to travel
   within the United States, especially Washington, D.C.
   - Demonstrated experience with event organization and stakeholder
   management.

Preferred Qualifications

   - Master’s degree in the field of International Relations, Political
   Science, Computer Science, or a cyber-relevant field.
   - 4 years of cumulative work experience, including experience working
   for an academic organization, think tank, or similar private sector work.
   - Ability to track multiple projects with varying deadlines and
   stakeholders.
   - Comfort with developing and maintaining budgets.
   - Familiarity with fundraising and grant proposals.
   - Demonstrated experience with research project management.
