Hi all,

Firstly, thank you Sky and everyone for comments, suggestions, getting the conversation started.

I think we owe it to our colleagues suffering in Palestine to at least put out a statement. If it’s too difficult for some they can just abstain. In the union movements so far, there have been subgroups such as ‘unionists for Palestine’— we could have a similar approach and sign a statement that way those who disagree or are worried about their jobs or whatever don’t have to sign. It shouldn’t be difficult to organise, and I am happy to be in the subgroup and contribute to such a statement.

I am in the same camp as Horacio, if there are no calls for end to genocidal practices, military support, etc than such a statement does not have my support.

Let’s get this going.

I’m not interested in a back and forth with those who have anti-Palestinian or anti-Arab/SWANA views, rather, I would suggest reading about these issues (including critical scholarship on Palestine and resistance movements) before foaming at the mouth with terrorist accusations.

The only statement I could support regarding the genocide carried out by
Israel against the Palestinian people is one that includes the following
points:

1) An immediate end to all aggression against the Gaza Strip by Israel.

2) An immediate end to all military aid to Israel by the European Union and
the United States.

3) The demand for the absolute respect of the UN resolutions systematically
breached by the xenophobic, supremacist, racist and theocratic state of
Israel.

4) The support of this group to the demand of South Africa to judge the
government of Israel for Genocide.

Any other statement does not have my support.
