Thank you, Sky for initiating this discussion, and the thoughtful contributions many have made to think through how this community can take action.

I would also support issuing of a statement and principles for taking action in support of the end of the blockade, siege, and destruction of Gaza and the Occupation more generally.

I agree with Sky and others who have suggested a focus on institutions not individuals, and on issues that our community is most affected by, and the issues our community is best placed to speak authoritatively on.

hmm, if we go back to Oct. 7th then that presents only a 3 month history,
effectively erasing the violent Zionist gangs who 'cleared the land' by
killing Palestinians - you know the European colonial declaration of 'terra
nullius'; let's also not forget the horrors of the massacres of Deir
Yassin, and the Nakba, when 750,000 Palestinians were forcibly removed from
their own land. As academics, let's at least present a good historical
record, including the 17 yr. blockade & siege of Gaza, the Apartheid state,
& 24/7 surveillance of Palestinians on the occupied territories, the
imprisonment, concentration camp, starvation diets and the ever constant
incursion of American & European settlers who say, "If I don't take you
house, then someone else will!"

Sky & others, thank you for initiating this important topic, I am fully in
support of a statement, especially in such a repressive, anti-democratic
climate as we are currently. Feels like the Mcarthyite era all over again,
despite all the talk of 'democracy' & 'Western values' in the  imperial
West. We haven't learned anything.
