I agree with Vikki that an academic boycott of colleagues is not the answer
and excluding colleagues who are vastly more informed about the region (and
making this an even more Anglo-American centric community) is indeed
counterproductive to reaching a peaceful outcome in the conflict. I don't
think there's harm in a statement on the situation and Israel's actions if
it also includes a statement on Hamas' actions and the hostages, and calls
for peace and rallies academic focus on pathways to resolution or efforts
to help Palestinian colleagues get to safety somehow. I can't see any
reason why the actions of Hamas should be omitted from any statement, it's
not like they are protecting the Palestinian people.
